It's taken over a week to recover and one of our riders has been pretty bedridden since (we were that committed), but we did it.

2,400 miles covered, then the 24 hour race done (42nd out of 160 in our interestingly titled 'open men' category). Almost £3000 raised for charity (and still growing - come on you can still contribute if you haven't yet). A big thanks once again to our main sponsors Saab.

Broken by the Coch

A weekend racking up the miles in the mountains of North Wales is great training, and we never expected 20c heat in early April in Snowdonia. You'd expect a drenching at that time of year, but we got sun burnt instead.

Riding around the mountains on the Coed-y-Brenin and Coed Llandegla trails is an epic experience. Stunning scenery and a fantastic buzz, with a great mix of fast flowing and technical rocky trails. But after 40km riding Snowdonia's finest we returned back from the 'Coch' trail and noticed that my bike, my pride and joy, had a nasty crack in the frame above the bottom bracket. A write-off. Of two-and-a-half-grand's worth of bike. Ouch.

Now I had no bike. Broken by the Coch, or maybe it was Uncle Fester, Herman or Gomez (the Addams Family must be big in North Wales, judging by the number of trails named after them). Normally I break my bones, not my bike. That would have almost been easier for me to take.

After a day of intense worrying about the cost of replacing it I returned back to London late Sunday to discover my warranty was still valid (5 years - not bad for something you chuck yourself down mountains on). Phew. Thank you Lapierre. There's a lesson there - pay more attention to this type of thing when you buy stuff.

Charity challenge day 2. Uh-Oh

Ok, so I was hoping the first blog post for our 2400 mile charity challenge would be more upbeat. But right now - after chucking myself head first into it and doing the 40 mile round-trip commute to Teddington and back on Day 1 - I've ridden in again this morning and I'm in trouble.

Or rather my knee is and has swollen up wildly and feels as creaky sore as the rusty tin man from the cod liver oil adverts - before the cod liver oil kicked in. Even after smearing almost an entire tube of Volteral painkiller gel on the offending knee, I had to admit defeat to the ligament gods and sheepishly call my wife up and ask her to drive in and give me a lift home.

I'm hoping a few days rest will do the trick but one thing's for sure, this isn't going to be a walk in the proverbial. What have we got ourselves into?

Base One have their cake and eat it - and raise money for Shooting Star

Selling like hot cakes: delicious goodies at the Base One cake sale

The Base One bakers donned their chef's hats and aprons this past week to raise money for our chosen charity, the Shooting Star Hospice.

The fundraising began with a bake sale at our home at Harlequin House. Those with a sweet tooth were well catered for with every sweet creation you can think of, from jam tarts to brownies and flapjacks to bread & butter pudding. So if you saw a smiling, chocolate-covered face whilst walking around Teddington, you probably saw someone who had visited the cake sale.

Yesterday, however, the gloves were off as we held a charity bake-off to decide who really is the Base One master baker.

Seven wannabe chefs spent hours perfecting their recipe, sourcing their ingredients, preparing their tools and baking their pièce de résistance for others to sample.

Even Nigella Lawson would have been proud because every tasted cake delightful. Voting was close but, in the end, Esme was crowned the overall winner for her lemon drizzle cake. So congratulations, Esme.

And congratulations to those who baked their cakes and who donated by buying them. You helped us raise a wonderful total of £326.80 for Shooting Star.

Base One find themselves in pole position

Chris, Matt, Tom and Anthony celebrate their victory

The Base One gang put pedal to the metal on Wednesday night to compete in The Advertising, Marketing & PR Companies Team Challenge Kart Race.

After getting kitted up in some rather unflattering racing suits and receiving a briefing on all the dos and do nots, it was time to rev the engines and get on the starting grid.

Base One were well represented, with four teams competing against eight other teams from local marketing organisations.

Kartacus, featuring Tom, Matt, Chris and Anthony, did the company proud by being crowned overall winners. Kart & Design, featuring Dan A, Dan O and Jason, also left an impression, picking up an impressive three black flags and two penalty points between them for what could be described, at best, as overly physical driving.

Special mention must go to Joe for organising the event - thanks, Joe. And well done to Susanne and Caz for representing the girls. Those karts certainly aren't light and they really gave the boys a run for their money.

Summer Event 2010

A week has passed since our Summer Event and we've just about recovered! Many thanks to those who came to Teddington - we're sure you'll agree that it was a fantastic day.

]]> The afternoon kicked off with egg & spoon and sack races for the children followed by a highly competitive parents 3 legged race. It was then on to softball, volleyball and football where the Green Team were ultimately victorious - so congratulations to them.

After the BBQ the auction got into full swing with furious (and some unintentional) bidding over some lots and then the Bass One Band pleased their fans with another rocking set. Those with energy left after all of that were treated to a DJ and dancing which brought the day to a close. All in all, it was an amazing day.

Most importantly, however, we're thrilled to tell you that the charity auction, fete and the raffle all helped us raise £2767.36 for the Shooting Star Children's Hospice. Base One has also decided to chip in by doubling this figure, bringing the overall total to a whopping £5534.72. We have to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated items for the auction and the raffle - the day wouldn't have been such a success without you.

Bass One Band

Great night out was had by all, as the Bass One Band rocked out the house at the Fat Duck (AKA Bloated Mallard in Teddington). We farewelled our favourite American, Noel Ponthieux, as she heads back to her homeland - Bon Voyage!

Richard Stowey joins Base One

Rich is the latest recruit to join the project management team. He is a Prince2 2009 Practitioner qualified project manager, and has varied experience within the website, product and engineering design fields over the past 5 years.

"I try to make the best use of my creative and technical understanding to bridge the gap between aesthetic and function"

Rich joined on the 16th November and blended right into the team, so much so we forgot to write a blog post about him!

He also enjoys photography and snowboarding!

New addition to the Search and Social Media team

Krupa is the latest member of the Search and Social Media team. Her first opportunity came to her after she got CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) certified about a year ago. She previously worked for a highly acclaimed B2C marketing agency that dwelled within the Digital Spaces, Social Media and Online PR. Krupa worked primarily across the Social Media platforms to create Conversation, Engagement & lots of Buzz! Now, new to the company she promises to excel within her role.

Krupa is currently a swim coach and has an active presence within her gym as well as being very involved in Charities and Siddha Yoga (A Self-Realisation and Meditation concept.)
